OIC SECRETARY GENERAL APPEALS FOR CALM AND RESTRAINT IN NIGERIA

JEDDAH (A.A) - 21.04.2011 - The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Prof Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu has appealed for calm and restraint in Nigeria.

Prof Ihsanoglu made the appeal following the post election violence that has engulfed parts of the northern states which has led to the unnecessary death of tens of innocent people, the injury of hundreds of others and the destruction of property. He urged all Nigerians to exercise maximum restraint to avoid the escalation of violence.

The Secretary General reminded Nigerians of the importance of the need to maintain national unity and to avoid acts that could derail democracy in their country.
