FIVE KILLED IN LANDSLIDE IN GARUT DISTRICT
Garut, W Java, April 25 (ANTARA) - A landslide at Gadog village, Karangpawitan subdisrict, Garut district, hit and destroyed a house, killing five people who were staying in it instantly.
Apipudin, the Gadog village chief, told Antara by cellphone, four of the five fatalities were members of one family while the fifth victim was a visiting relative.
The dead victims were identified as Iim (55), his wife, Omih, and two of their children - Ninih (13) and Ihom (14), and Inen (45), a visiting relative.
"The victims bodies were found by local residents who cleared the mud and debris from the landslide with simple tools," he said.
The ill-fated house was situated near a steep hill, part of which collapsed after a heavy downpour at 18.30 West Indonesian Time.
The bodies of the five landslide victims were evacuated to a local mosque pending their burial scheduled to take place on Sunday.
