PLN PLANS TO RENT ANOTHER POWER PLANT

Jakarta, April 25 (ANTARA) - State electricity company PT PLN will rent a number of steam-power plants (PLTUs) outside Java in anticipation of delays in the completion of similar projects of private companies.

PT PLN spokesman Bambang Dwiyanto said here on Sunday that in renting, investors only needed to build power plants and operate them, while PLN will provide the building sites and takes care of operational preparations, coal supplies, and buy the electricity.

"The co-operation will be for nine years and a power plant will take 20 months," he said, hoping many investors are interested in cooperating with PLN.

According to Dwiyanto, PLN has started to auction the renting of seven power plants, including Tarahan, Lampung, 2 x 120-150 MW, NTB 4 x 25-30 MW, Timika, Papua 2 x 15 MW, and Riau 2 x 120-150 MW, Kuala Tanjung, North Sumatera 3 x 120-150 MW, Balikpapan Bay, East Kalimantan 2 x 120-150 MW, and Asam-Asam, South Kalimantan 3 x 50-65 MW.

PLN has also prepared an auction for the renting of three power plants, including Air Anyer, Bangka 2 x 30 MW, Barru, South Sulawesi 2 x 120-150 MW, and Amurang, North Sulawesi 2 x 25-30 MW, in anticipation of increased power consumption outside Java and to reduce fuel consumption and eventually use only coal.
