EDB and UNDP to implement joint programs in Central Asia

ALMATY, April 25 (Itar-Tass) -- The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB)
and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) will implement joint
programmes and projects in the field of using renewable sources of energy
in rural regions of Central Asia and study problems of joint running of
hydroenergy resources of the region's transborder rivers.
This is envisaged in the memorandum on mutual understanding which was
signed by chairman of the EDB board Igor Finogenov and director of the
UNDP Europe and CIS Regional Bureau Kori Udovicki," the bank's press
service reports on Monday.
The document lays a foundation of joint work and cooperation of the
EDB and the UNDP. It expresses the sides' consent to strengthen and
coordinate efforts in the field of energy effectiveness and energy saving,
environmental protection and food security, running of water resources and
development of rural regions, the press service writes.
The United Nations Development Programme is an international
organization of the UN system of rendering free aid to the
member-countries in the field of development. The organization's funds are
formed on the basis of voluntarily donations of its participants,
including member-countries or observers of the United Nations and other
international organizations.
The Eurasian Development Bank is an international financial
organization established by Russia and Kazakhstan in January 2006. Its
authorized capital exceeds 1.5 billion dollars. Russia, Kazakhstan,
Tajikistan and Belarus are member-states of the bank.
