CENTRAL JAVA EXPORTS OVER 16,000 TONS OF SHRIMPS

Semarang, C Java, April 25 (ANTARA) - The Central Java province is able to export some 16,340 tons of shrimps per annum, head of Central Java`s Fishery Service Subagyo said.

"Central Java has the big potential to export shrimps as it has regions which are shrimp production centers," Subagyo said here on Monday.

He said that Central Java had six regions which constituted shrimp production centers.

The six regions are the districts of Demak, Kendal, Pemalang, Jepara, Pati and Brebes. The exported shrimps were in the form of frozen shrimps but some were also exported in the form of chips and in other form of packed shrimp products.

He said that Central Java also exported crabs and tuna. Cilacap is the biggest district producing tuna. The canning of tuna is also done in Cilacap.

"Most of the tuna fish is obtained from the southern coastal areas, namely in Cilacap district," Subagyo said.
