GOVT PROJECTS 2012 BUDGET DEFICIT AT 1.4 PCT

Jakarta, April 25 (ANTARA) - The g`government has projected the deficit in the 2012 state budget at 1.4 percent of the gross domestic product (GDP) with the possibility of it rising 0.1-0.2 percent.

"Under the government`s work plan of 2012 now being prepared, the deficit is about 1.4 percent," Finance Minister Agus Martowardojo said following a meeting at the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs here on Monday.

The budget deficit forecast might go up 0.1 to 0.2 percent on condition the additional deficit would be directed towards financing development of infrastructure projects, he said.

The government would continue to carry out programs that could raise state revenues while at the same time using state budget funds as efficiently as possible, he said.

The minister said the government would also make an effort to ensure that capital expenditures could be used for productive activities in 2014.

He predicted state revenues in 2012 would increase around Rp100 trillion from this year. "The increase is expected to originate from a combination of various income sources but a great part of it will be derived from non-tax state revenues."

In the 2011 state budget, state revenues have been set at Rp1,104.9 trillion and state spending at Rp1,229.6 trillion with a budget deficit of Rp124.7 trillion. Meanwhile, the assumed GDP in the 2011 state budget has been set at Rp7,018.9 trillion.
