Doosan Infracore Q1 net soars almost six-fold

SEOUL, April 28 (Yonhap) -- Doosan Infracore Co., South Korea's largest construction equipment maker, said Thursday that its first-quarter earnings rose almost six-fold largely thanks to increased demand for its key products.
Net profit reached 149 billion won (US$139 million) in the January-March period, compared with a profit of 26 billion won a year earlier, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Sales climbed 33 percent to 2.35 trillion won over the cited period, and operating income rose 69 percent to 238 billion won, it said.
Shares of Doosan Infracore closed at 28,550 won on the Seoul bourse, up 1.78 percent.
Doosan Infracore said demand for construction equipment and machinery increased sharply, and soaring product prices helped boost profit.
In a separate filing, Doosan Infracore said it will sell its forklift business for 245 billion won to reduce its debt.
