MUI URGES GOVT TO FIRMLY DEAL WITH NII
Jakarta, April 28 (ANTARA) - Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) chairman Amidhan has urged the government to take firm action against radicalism and the Indonesian Islamic State (NII) movement.
Speaking in a discussion at the legislative building here on Thursday, the MUI chairman said the government should do something about the recent increasing radicalism and NII movement in order not to jeopardize the integrity of the Unitary State of Indonesian Republic (NKRI).
"The government should be firm. Even the government has known the location of the movement and the party who is responsible in the radicalism acts," Amidhan said.
Besides Amidhan, speakers in the weekly discussion themed "Radicalism with Religious Guise Threatens NKRI" were Tubagus Hasanudin of the PDIP faction in the House of Representatives (DPR), Susaningtyas Kertopati of Hanura faction, and Moderate Muslim Society chairman Zuhairi Musrawi.
Amidhan said that various violent acts such as in Cikeusik and Temanggung were intentionally created to corner the Muslim community.
Referring to NII, Amidhan explained that in 2005 MUI conducted an investigation at Al-Zaytun Islamic boarding school and found out that there were two entities at the school.
"The result of MUI investigation at Al-Zaitun has been reported to the National Education Ministry and National Police Headquarters. The security and intelligence personnel know well about it and we do but it is beyond our domain to do something about it," Amidhan said.
