Japan Emperor, Empress Put Off Visit to Iwate
Tokyo, May 2 (Jiji Press)--Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko postponed their visit to Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan, initially set for Monday, until Friday due to bad weather.
The Imperial couple was scheduled to arrive at Hanamaki Airport by Self-Defense Forces aircraft and then move by helicopter to the cities of Kamaishi and Miyako to visit people affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami.
The visit was put off due to strong winds blowing in the prefecture, the Imperial Household Agency said.
Iwate is one of the worst-hit prefectures.
The Imperial couple has already visited affected areas in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, Ibaraki Prefecture, northeast of Tokyo, and Miyagi Prefecture, northeastern Japan.
