Doha Hosts First GCC - ASEAN Meeting on Food Security Tuesday

Doha, May 01 (QNA) - The joint working team of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States (GCC) and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) will hold its first meeting to discuss ??food security and agricultural investment.
The meeting, to be convened under the auspices of HE Minister of Environment Abdullah bin Mubarak bin Aaboud Al Me'edadi, over two days will feature several issues including cooperation between the GCC and ASEAN countries in the field of agricultural investment and its implementation mechanism .. And investment opportunities to achieve food security, legislation, regulations and procedures that allow production and exchange of food commodities as well as application of standards and specifications for food safety, capital movements and ensure the rights of investment in addition to discussing the role of the private sector in ASEAN and the GCC countries to invest in the agricultural sector.
The meeting is expected to come out with recommendations for strengthening cooperation among the GCC and ASEAN countries in the field of investment in the agricultural sector and food security.
Taking part in the meeting in addition to the GCC and ASEAN countries, are Qatar's Ministry of Environment, Hassad Company and the Food Security Progarmme and Qatar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (QCCI) .(QNA)
