S. Korea's defense minister opens Twitter account

SEOUL, May 2 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's defense minister on Monday made a foray into the world's most popular microblogging service, hoping to better communicate with young online users.
Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin opened a Twitter account under the username @twit_kwanjinkim as of Monday morning.
"Hi! This is Defense Minister Kim Kwan-jin. Today, I'm starting Twitter. Please give me your interest and support," Kim wrote in his first message.
About an hour after the launch, Kim's Twitter feed garnered some 90 followers.
An official at the defense ministry said there was "consideration" before Kim opened the Twitter account as a minister handling sensitive security issues.
"The Twitter will be used as a tool to communicate with the people about a variety of current defense issues, excluding classified information," the official said on the condition of anonymity.
