Master Plan for Qatar to Be Presented to Cabinet Next May


Doha, May 02 (QNA) - HE the Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Khalifa bin Abdul Aziz Al Thani said the ministry plans to present the Master Plan for Qatar, a comprehensive long term master plan that will guide the physical development of Qatar, to the Council of Ministers in next May.
The Minister in remarks during the inauguration of (Project Qatar 2011) expo this evening said the that the comprehensive urban plan is based on "Qatar National Vision 2030" and is part of it as well, noting that the plan includes data that are consistent with this vision in terms of the projected population and the upcoming development projects.
Responding to a question by Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning's plans for the proper implementation of the Qatar's NDS 2011 - 2016, HE Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Khalifa Al Thani said the ministry is part of the Qatar National Vision 2030 and will cooperate with other ministries in the development of required plans and related projects in order to create consistency between the work of all these ministries.
He said Qatar will spend about $10 billion on infrastructure projects this year, pointing out that there is a significant change in offering projects where the state is considering the quality of the projects not only in terms of cost price, but in terms of qualitative criteria.
HE Sheikh Abdurrahman bin Khalifa Al Thani said Qatar has a clear vision which its foundations were laid down by HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. This vision considers the implementation of projects and development plans, especially infrastructure projects in which work has begun two years ago, he added.
He noted that HH the Emir said in more than one occasion that Qatar wants to build a modern state through this infrastructure projects.
He expected that the exhibition "Project Qatar 2011," would be a great success especially in light of large-scale projects which the State intends to offer during the coming period, considering that the participation of companies in the exhibition as a good opportunity for them to take advantage from the projects to be offered, especially projects related to 2022 FIFA World Cup.
