UAE issues a statement on bin Laden's killing

Abu Dhabi, May 3, 2011 (WAM) - The UAE played in the past decade an important role within the alliance of nations and peoples in fighting the phenomena of terrorism and extremism, targeting of civilians and turning parts of the world into open fronts, a senior foreign ministry official said yesterday.
In remarks on the killing of Osama bin Laden, head of Al Qaeda network, Dr.Tariq Al Haidan, Assistant Foreign Minister for Political Affairs, said :"Apart from claiming lives of thousands of innocent victims, terrorism has had significant negative impact on the image of Islam and Muslims.
"The killing of Osama bin Laded is a positive step that will enhance international efforts for combating terrorism,' he said, affirming the need of continuity of these efforts and cooperation between various countries to eradicate this phenomenon.
"The death of bin Laden does not spell the end of Al Qaeda and terrorism," he said, adding that ''We must exercise caution and vigilance so as to preserve the security of the UAE and its people. Other countries should also do so''. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
