PEOPLE'S WELL-BEING TO BE GIVEN PRIORITY IN GREATER KL PLAN - DPM

PUTRAJAYA, May 3 (Bernama) -- Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin gave the assurance Tuesday that the people's well-being will be given priority in implementing the "Greater KL and Klang Valley" initiative in a bid to make the national capital a world class city.

The move would also in line with the aspiration to position the place as among the 20 best cities to live, he said.

"There should be a balanced, dynamic and competitive economic development. This is to ensure there are no economic gaps among us.

"The government constantly strives to eradicate poverty and encourage the creation of professionals in each household to ensure prosperity in the country's family institutions," he said when opening the Menara Seri Wilayah of the Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry, here Tuesday.

Present was Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin.

The Menara Seri Wilayah, formerly PjH Tower and completed in 2004, was bought by the ministry from Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd in May last year.

Muhyiddin said the government was aware that development programmes that were in line with technological advancement, and environmental-friendly, could became a catalyst in bringing progress to the people.

He said the government needed to embark on transformation in all aspects in order to achieve the country's agenda.

On the Menara Seri Wilayah, the deputy prime minister said the building would become a new landmark in the country's administrative capital.

In this context, he said, it was the responsibility of the ministry's staff to give their best to the people of the Federal Territories.
