Louvre Director visits Azerbaijan State Museum of Arts

Baku. May 4 (AzerTAc). Director of Louvre Museum Henri Loyrette has visited the Azerbaijan State Museum of Arts.
The Museum`s director Chingiz Farzaliyev told Loyrette of the reconstruction work here.
They discussed preparatory issues for the launch of a Louvre exhibition in Baku, which is slated for 2013 or 2014.
Loyrette, who visited the Azerbaijan State Museum of Arts in 2008, said the museum`s collection had been expanded.
The Louvre museum is housed in the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) which began as a fortress built in the late 12th century under Philip II. Remnants of the fortress are still visible. The building was extended many times to form the present Louvre Palace.
During the French Revolution, the National Assembly decreed that the Louvre should be used as a museum, to display the nation`s masterpieces.
