Wen to visit Fukushima during Japan trip for trilateral summit+

BEIJING, May 16 Kyodo -
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will visit Fukushima Prefecture and other areas hit by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami when he travels to Tokyo this weekend for a trilateral summit among China, Japan and South Korea, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
''Wen Jiabao will visit Fukushima and other disaster-hit areas to pay sympathy to the Japanese public, express deep sympathy of the Chinese government and people to the Japanese people, and express support toward Japan's post-disaster reconstruction,'' ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said in a statement issued Sunday.
Japan is planning to hold the opening ceremony for the trilateral summit, slated for Saturday and Sunday in Tokyo, in the city of Fukushima, around 60 kilometers northwest of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant crippled by the powerful quake and tsunami.
Jiang said Wen will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and South Korean President Lee Myung Bak in Tokyo and discuss cooperation among the three countries and regional and international issues of common concern.
Wen will have bilateral talks with Kan and Lee on the sidelines, she said.
In a meeting with a delegation of the Japan Business Federation on Friday in Beijing, Wen said he will visit an affected area during his upcoming trip to Japan, but did not specify where he will visit.
Disaster management, prevention and nuclear safety are likely to be high on the agenda during the trilateral summit.
