Indian Prime Minister reviews security scenario with military top brass


New Delhi, May 16, 2011 (PPI): Against the backdrop of the killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and the situation in Pakistan, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday took stock of the country's overall security scenario with the military top brass, Press Trust of India PTI reported.

The 90-minute security review at the Prime Minister's residence was attended by Defence Minister AK Antony, National Security Adviser (NSA) Shiv Shankar Menon, Army Chief General V.K. Singh, Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Verma, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal PV Naik, Defence Secretary Pradeep Kumar and DRDO Chief V K Saraswat.

"The Prime Minister was briefed on the overall security measures and the general preparedness of the defence forces. Issues like changing security situation in Pakistan and the situation along the Sino-Indian border were discussed," Defence Ministry officials said here.

Last Wednesday, Defence Minister had also reviewed security measures in view of the situation in the neighbourhood. He was briefed on the coastal security measures taken by maritime security agencies.
