Over 160 suspected insurgents report to authorities in Yala

YALA, May 26 (TNA) - Over 160 suspected insurgents have reported themselves to authorities in Yala Province, one of violence-plagued areas in Thailand’s deep South, over the past one year, thanks to the adoption of a three-pronged policy on access to local communities, understanding of local people and development of troubled areas, advised by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Yala Governor Kritsada Boonraj, in his capacity as the director of Yala's peace centre set up at the Provincial Hall, said that 32 out of the total 161 suspected insurgents just reported to the local authorities at the centre on Thursday during a ceremony which he presided over.

The Yala governor revealed that the remaining 129 suspected insurgents in his province had turned themselves in to the local authorities from October 2009-December 30, 2010. (TNA)
