Renault Samsung sales dip 12.6 pct in May

SEOUL, June 1 (Yonhap) -- Renault Samsung Motors Co., the South Korean unit of French automaker Renault SA, said Wednesday its sales in May dropped 12.6 percent from a year earlier on a tumble in domestic demand.
Renault Samsung said it sold 19,624 vehicles last month, compared with 22,454 units sold in the same period last year.
Exports rose 29.7 percent to 11,612 units from last year, but the growth was not enough to offset a 40.7 percent drop in domestic sales to 8,012 units from 13,503 units a year earlier.
The figure for overall sales in May, however, marks a 22.7 percent gain from the previous month when the company sold 15,988 cars globally.
