Qatar Supports Combating Human Trafficking


New York, June 01 (QNA) - The State of Qatar has stressed that the fight against trafficking in human beings can not bear the desired results in the absence of a comprehensive perspective to confront the phenomenon, including addressing root causes namely poverty, unemployment, lack of equal opportunities in development , the gap between North and the South , the weak support
for development in the South , armed conflicts and political turmoil.
  This was spelled out in a speech delivered by Mansour Abdullah Sulaitin, first secretary of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar in Geneva at a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council.
Sulaitin said that the State of Qatar was playing a leading role in fighting the phenomenon and was promoting national , regional and international efforts in this direction.
Qatar Foundation for Combating Human Trafficking has launched the five-year plan 2010 - 2015 for combating trafficking in human beings , which aims at preventing trafficking , protecting and assisting victims and compensating them , and ensuring punishment for culprits, he said
