Nabucco project support agreements to be signed on Wednesday


KAYSERI (A.A) - 07.06.2011 - Turkish Energy & Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said Tuesday that Nabucco project support agreements would be signed on Wednesday to strengthen the intergovernmental agreement.
The support agreements for the Nabucco Natural Gas Pipeline which will carry natural gas from the Caspian region and the Caucasus to Europe, will be signed by energy ministers from the relevant countries at a formal ceremony in the central Turkish province of Kayseri.  
Yildiz told reporters that five ministers from six countries including Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Georgia would attend the signing ceremony. 
"EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger and U.S. President Barack Obama's Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy Richard Morningstar will also come to Kayseri," he added. 
The Nabucco pipeline is a proposed natural gas pipeline from Erzurum in Turkey to Baumgarten an der March in Austria diversifying natural gas suppliers and delivery routes for Europe. Preparations for the Nabucco project started in 2002 and the intergovernmental agreement between Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Austria was signed on July 13, 2009. The project is developed by the consortium of six companies. The pipeline is expected to be operational by 2017 and it will carry 31 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year.
