Yemenis will not allow interference in internal affairs, Iran says

TEHRAN, June 8 (MNA) – The Iranian Foreign Ministry has said that the Yemeni people will not allow foreigners to meddle in their internal affairs.

The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the Yemeni people have grown to political maturity and will not allow the foreigners’ interference aimed at taking advantage of the current political situation in the crisis-hit country, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Tuesday.

The Iranian diplomat also expressed deep regret about the use of violence against the Yemeni protesters who are campaigning for their legitimate demands.

“The Yemeni people have resolutely entered the political and social scene over the past few months and have suffered greatly in their campaign for the realization of their aspirations,” he said.

“But the current course of events show that people’s demands have not been responded to properly and unfortunately (the Yemeni government) has taken violent actions against the people,” he added.

Mehmanparast expressed hope that Yemeni people, groups, parties, thinkers, and prominent figures would maintain their vigilance and unity in their struggle for the realization of their demands and rights.

Since the beginning of popular uprising in Yemen in late January, the Yemeni government has tried to quell the unrest, but it has failed to contain the protesters.

On Friday, the embattled Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh left the country allegedly to receive urgent medical treatment in Saudi Arabia and Yemeni Vice President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi took over Saleh’s responsibilities as president.
