OSAKA, Japan, June 14 (Bernama) -- The Crown Prince of Perlis state, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail is inviting Japanese tourists in Malaysia to visit Perlis.

He said this was because Malaysia's northern state of Perlis had various environment related attractions such as the Perlis State Park and Perlis Herbal Garden besides being a strategic gateway to Langkawi and Thailand.

Speaking at the Kansai International Airport in Osaka today, he said it would be an added benefit for those who visited Thailand through Perlis.

The Raja Muda of Perlis was speaking on his return after attending a week-long programme 'Let's Go Jalan-jalan' to promote tourism in Perlis organised by MAS Holidays and BMC Travel Sdn Bhd.

The programme, which began on June 8, among others also covered tourist spots in Kyoto, Kobe and Osaka which were affected by the earthquake and tsunami in March.

While hoping for the recovery of the Japanese tourism sector, he also hoped tourism in Perlis would continue to flourish.

The climate of Perlis, with its cold East Wind Season, could help draw tourists besides its popular agro-tourism sector comprising grape farms, harumanis mango orchards, sugar cane plantations and padi fields.

He expressed his hope that investors would also look at Perlis as an investment destination in hotels, food, properties, health, education and transportation.

According to him, statistics showed the total tourist arrivals to Perlis last year was 1.6 million including 346,000 foreign tourists while the projected tourist arrivals for 2015 was 1.8 million comprising 364,000 foreign visitors.

Present at the Kansai International Airport to send off the Crown Prince was the Malaysian Tourism Board director in Osaka, Rosli Reshid Mohd Saini.

Also participating in the delelegation was the General Manager of Bernama, Hasnul Hassan.
