Baku hosts 1st Caspian International Transport Conference


Baku, June 17 (AzerTAc). Azerbaijan`s capital has today hosted the 1st Caspian International Transport Conference.
The conference is part of the International Transport, Transit and Logistics Exhibition TransCaspian 2011.
The conference, titled “Azerbaijan’s increasing role as a transit country on the crossroads of strategic transport corridors and developing transport infrastructure”, was attended by Azerbaijani and Russian transport experts and representatives of commercial and public organizations.
TRACECA’s Azerbaijan National Secretary Akif Mustafayev highlighted prosepcts of the Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia.
Transport ministers of Azerbaijan and Russia Ziya Mammadov and Igor Levitin were also present at the the event.
In his speech, the Russian minister touched upon the regional transportation projects, praising Azerbaijan’s role in them.
“A very important geographic location of Azerbaijan makes the country essential part of transport corridors. With the commissioning of the North-South transport corridor, the volume of cargo transportationthrough Azerbaijan will increase,” he said.
