Human rights experts discuss rights of ethnic and national minorities in Baku


Baku, June 18 (AzerTAc). Rights of ethnic and national minorities have been discussed as part of the 9th International Conference of Ombudspersons underway in the Azerbaijani capital.
The event, organized by the Office of Azerbaijan`s Human Rights Commissioner, was dedicated to legal aspects and application of cultural rights of national minorities and migrants.
Speakers at the event included director of Human Rights Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Aytan Mustafayeva, chairman of the culture committee at the Azerbaijani Parliament, Nizami Jafarov, professor Vagif Arzumanli, Novgorod region ombudswoman Galina Matveyeva, Human Rights Commissioner for Sverdlovsk oblast Tatyana Merzlyakova and director of Migration Studies Seminar program for HESP / Central European University in Budapest Irina Molodikova.
International Conference of Ombudspersons marks the Human Rights Day, the 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan`s independence and the 45th anniversary of international pacts on civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights.
The conference brings together human rights commissioners and experts from Sweden, Norway, India, Thailand, Pakistan, Poland, Slovenia, the Russian Federation, Ukraine and Moldova.
