Governor of Niniveh stresses necessity to restore balance to Iraq’s Army with a share for Niniveh

Mosul (NINA) – The Governor of Niniveh, Atheel al-Nijaifi, stressed the necessity to restore balance to the Iraqi Army and with a share to Niniveh corresponds to its population density.

In a meeting on Sunday afternoon, with officers of the former Army, Governor Nijaifi said, “The former Army’s officers from Niniveh are the most who suffer.”

He added, “Restoring balance of the Iraqi Army, with a share for Niniveh, corresponds with its population density, is a logical thing and is part of the political disagreement between political blocs, this is been population density in the Erbil Agreement.”

Nijaifi stressed the importance of documenting the Iraqi Army’s history during the 80’s being an important historic era and a big turning point in Iraq’s history, especially that most of the officers who participated in those battles are still in the country and have not left.

“We do not want to lose our history, rather we want to restore confidence to our fellow citizens and be proud of their country’s history.” He continued.

Nijaifi then listened to the former officers’ sufferance and their demand for support from local government to regain their rights, whether pension or end of service bonus, as well as forming an association to entrust with following up their affairs.
