Kurdistan: Continued Iranian bombing, Turkish raids violate the region’s territories

Baghdad (NINA) – Spokesman for Kurdistan region’s Ministry of Peshmerga, Jabar Yawar, considered, “Continued Iranian artillery bombing and Turkish air raids is a violation of the region’s territories and the rights of civilians living in border areas.”

The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) web site quoted Yawar saying in a press conference held on Wednesday, June 22, “Since 2007, Iranian artillery and Turkish war planes have been bombing border territories, which resulted in killing farmers and shepherd in the area, as well as causing damages to farms and properties.”

Yawar pointed out that International Human Right Agreement stipulates that even during war time, if civilians live near military location, that location must not be bombed so civilians will not be harmed. He affirmed that the central government is officially responsible to safeguard the borders, according to the Constitution and law. He added, “We have taken all legal measures and have contacted both countries’ consulates to put a stop to the bombing.”

Yawar went on saying, “We have demanded the central government and Parliament to interfere; and Parliament sent a delegation to border areas, but no serious solution has been taken.”



Katusha rock hits Diwaniya, 4 wounded



Diwaniya (NINA) – Four Katusha rockets fired by unknown persons, one of them hit the city of Diwaniya, Qadisiya province, wounding four persons.

Police source told NINA on Wednesday, June 22, “Unknown persons fired four Katusha rockets, one of the rockets hit downtown Diwaniya wounding four person, two in critical conditions, they are rushed to hospital for treatment.”

He added, “The other three rockets fail in the vicinities of Echo Base, 3 km south of Diwaniya, where American forces are.”

It is worth mentioning that on Tuesday, Diwaniya witnessed two explosions, resulted in the killing and wounding 51 persons, most of them are from the police force. / End.
