Inflation in Kuwait up by 5.4 percent in May

KUWAIT (KUNA) - Inflation in Kuwait went up by 5.4 percent in May on an annual basis compared to 0.3 percent in April on a monthly basis, according to official figures.
The record figure for May was 147.4 points, and foodstuff in May edged up by 11.7 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2010, showed the monthly report of the Central Statistics Administration (CSA).
Sugar rose by 0.1 percent, tea and coffee by 1.2 percent, milk and eggs by 1.2 percent, oil by 0.5 percent, meat and fish by 3.3 percent, and legumes and bread by one percent, while fruit and vegetables went down by 0.4 percent, it said.
Clothes increased by 4.2 percent in May on an annual basis, while educational and health services rose by four percent compared to May 2010, the report added.
Commodities and household services shot up by 4.3 percent on an annual basis, while beverages and tobacco edged down by 4.3 percent.
Transport and communications went up by 1.6 percent compared to May 2010, it indicated.
