OANA EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING IS TO BEGIN


Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The 33rd Executive Board meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) will take place in Ulaanbaatar June 27-29.
Organized by the MONTSAME news agency of Mongolia--one of the members of the OANA Executive Board--the meeting will bring together some 30 representatives from 14 news agencies of Asia-Pacific region. The OANA president and director-general of Turkey's Anadolu news agency Mr. Hilmi Bengi will make opening remarks. A greeting will be conveyed by Mongolia's Prime Minister S.Batbold.
The delegations of foreign countries include Hasnul Hassan, a vice-president of the OANA and general manager of the Bernama news agency of Malaysia; administrative officials of the news agencies such as Azertac (Azerbaijan), Anadolu (Turkey), Antara (Indonesia), Bernama (Malaysia), Itar-TASS (Russia), IRNA (Iran), Yonhap (Republic of Korea), VNA (Vietnam), Kyodo Tsushin (Japan); TNA (Thailand) and Xinhua (China).
The gathered will discuss such issues as improving content and quality of information and the news supplied to the OANA network, expanding an information exchange through multi-media, renovating techniques and technologies.
Other matters to be discussed are the criteria in selecting member of the OANA Executive Board and in accepting a membership of the NNA--National News Agency of Lebanon.
The meeting has been coinciding with the 90th anniversary of the MONTSAME agency and the 50th anniversary of the OANA.
The MONTSAME joined the OANA in 1981, and since then has been actively participating in its activities. The MONTSAME regularly exchanges news with 42 countries by sending some 15 news every day to the OANA's network, propagandizing Mongolia's development and present situation to foreign countries and distributing news to Mongolia about events taking place in Asia-Pacific region.
