Russia's Duma to have 2nd reading of bill on changing abortion promos.

MOSCOW, June 28 (Itar-Tass) - Russia's State Duma is due to have the
second reading of a bill demanding that the advertising of abortions carry
warnings about the hazardous aftereffects, including a loss of fertility,
that induced abortions may have for women's health.
"The number of abortions in this country stands between 6 million to 8
million a year and this is the result of a stereotype suggesting that an
unwanted pregnancy is a hindrance in making a career and an excessive
burden," MP Tatiana Yakovleva, first deputy chief of the United Russia
Party faction said Monday.
"Along with this, the advertisements create an impression that an
abortion is a trifling thing, a quick and non-risky surgery," she said.
"More than that, some clinics even offer discounts for effectuating
commercial abortions."
"You can come across such promo actions frequently enough, and that's
why each advertisement should contain not only the mentioning of discounts
but also a warning about health risks," Yakovleva said.
"Unsafe and poorly performed abortions deprive 20% of families in this
country of an opportunity to beget children," she went on saying.
MP Vladimir Zvagelsky, who co-authored the bill, said that abortion is
a cause of death of one pregnant woman in five dying in the course of
pregnancy.
"Only 2% women in this country in the age of 40 years old and younger
have never had abortions," Zvagelsky said. "Along with the really big
number of abortions increases the number of infertile couples in the
arithmetic progression."
"The amendments introduced in the bill for the second reading require
that the advertisement of abortions contain warnings about health risks
and that these warnings should occupy no less than 10% of each promo," he
said.
