Ukraine erects memorial to Azerbaijani hero of Soviet Union

Baku (AzerTAc) - A monument to Hero of the Soviet Union, Red Army guard Mikail Alakbarov has been erected in Rudka village of Tsarichansk region, Dnepropetrovsk oblast, in Ukraine.
The ceremony took place on the reconstructed mass grave where 309 soldiers are buried.
Chairman of the Dnepropetrovsk regional council Yevgeni Udod, Azerbaijani ambassador to Ukraine Eynulla Madatli, Dnepropetrovsk regional council member from the Party of Regions Fakhraddin Mukhtar, who reconstructed mass grave and erected a monument to the deceased hero, people`s deputy of Ukraine (Party of Regions) Nikolay Soloshenko and others addressed the gathering.
"During the Great Patriotic War, thousands of my countrymen gained everlasting glory with the liberation of Ukraine, many of them were awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union, many Azerbaijanis, doing their duty to the end, found eternal peace on the great Ukrainian land,” the Azerbaijani diplomat said.
The ambassador also noted the event symbolized the “unbreakable friendship” between Azerbaijani and Ukrainian peoples.
The bronze monument was made by state-honored artist of Ukraine, Azerbaijani sculptor Seyfaddin Gurbanov, who now lives in Kharkov.
The ambassador of Azerbaijan and the chairman of the regional council laid a wreath at the monument.
