PRESIDENT TO INSTALL LT GEN PRAMONO EDHIE AS NEW ARMY CHIEF

Jakarta, June 30 (ANTARA) - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono is scheduled to install Lt Gen Pramono Edhie Wibowo as the new Army chief of staff (KSAD) succeeding Gen TNI George Toisutta at the State Palace here Thursday.

The installationc ceremony will take place at around 02.00 p.m.

Born in Magelang, Central Java, on May 5, 1955, Pramono is currently the commander of the Army`s Strategic Reserves Command (Kostrad).

He is a son of former commander of the Army Para Commandos Regiment (RPKAD) now the special elite force Kopassus, the late Sarwo Edhie, and a younger brother of First Lady Ani Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. He graduated from the Military Academy in 1980.

Pramono Edhie was one of the three military officers nominated for Army chief of staff to succeed Gen Toisutta who is due to enter retirement on July 1, 2011.

The other nominees were Lt Gen Budiman who is currently deputy Army chief of staff and Lt Gen Marciano Norman who is now commander of the TNI`s Education and Training Command (Kodiklatad) in Bandung.

Pramono Edhie was adjutant to former president Megawati Soekarnoputri and commandant general of the special elite force Kopassus from 2008 to 2009.

He was later appointed to chief of the Siliwangi regional military command in 2009 and commander of the Army`s Strategic Reserves Command in 2010.

The transfer of post of Army chief of staff from Gen. George Toisutta to Lt Gen Pramono Edhie will take place at the Army Headquarters here on July 7. Gen Goerge Toisutta is to retire as of July 1, 2011.
