Khafaji, French ambassador discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation

Baghdad (NINA) – Head of the political commission of the Sadr Trend, Karar Al Khafaji, discussed with a delegation from the French embassy in Baghdad, headed by the newly appointed ambassador, enhancing the bilateral ties in service of both countries’ interests.

Media office of the commission mentioned that “Khafaji appreciated the former ambassador’s role and the French rejection to take part in occupation of Iraq.”

For his part, the French ambassador expressed that he would exert his efforts to increase mutual cooperation. /End/

Talabani congratulates Obama for his country's Independence Day


Baghdad (NINA) - President Jalal Talabani said Iraq is seeking to renew "the bonds of friendship, cooperation, and support and to hold them on legal basis with the United States.”

In a congratulatory telegram sent to President Barack Obama on the occasion of Independence Day, Talabani said “I take the opportunity to renew Iraq’s pursuit to expand these links and to establish them on legal foundation based on agreements between the two countries, and to everything agreed on by the legislative and executive authorities in Iraq and the US, to ensure the security and stability in our countries, the region, and the world, and to help expanding political, economic, and trade cooperation between both countries."

Talabani, in his message, wished the US president all success and the friendly American people all progress and prosperity.Al Mahmoud: 41 violation of human rights monitored in prisons



Baghdad (NINA) - The Supreme Judicial Council expressed its commitment to monitor violations of the law in the state sectors.

The head of the Council, Medhat Al Mahmoud, said in a press conference today "the public attorneys monitor each violation of the law through the permanent presence of the attorneys in detentions and prisons and through the visits they conduct."

He added that "5116 visits were conducted in which 41 violations of human rights were registered, and therefore, 41 complaints were filed against those who committed human rights violations and are currently in courts."

He continued "public attorneys were appointed in Rusafa detention and the juvenile detention in Tobchi area
Zibari briefs Vatican ambassador with efforts to protect Christians in Iraq

Baghdad (NINA) – Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zibari discussed with the Vatican ambassador to Iraq George Linkwa means of developing bilateral ties.

A statement issued by ministry mentioned that “Zibari met today with the Vatican official and discussed with him Iraqi Christians’ affairs and the Iraqi government’s efforts to protect them in addition to the Vatican’s programs to provide aid and assistance to them.”

The statement pointed out that “the minister asserted the importance of encouraging the Christians on staying in their home and land and to participate in building and developing Iraq.”
