Azerbaijani representative attends UNESCO`s meeting on return of cultural property

Baku, July 6 (AzerTAc). Representative of Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Culture and Tourism attended the 17th session of the UNESCO`s Intergovernmental Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property to its Countries of Origin or its Restitution in Case of Illicit Appropriation (ICPRCP) in France`s capital Paris.
Restitutions appeals for Parthenon marbles (the United Kingdom of Great Britain - Greece), Boğazköy Sphinx (Germany – Turkey) were discussed during the session.
The International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT), World Customs Organization (WCO), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), International Council of Museums (ICOM), Interpol, and Italian Carabinieri Service briefed the participants on recent activity towards relevant issue.
Hermes 2011 program of European Comission was also presented in the event.
The Azerbaijani representative updated the participants on the aggressive policy carried out by Armenians against Azerbaijanis. They were informed that occupation was not only limited to territorial claims, but also robbery of over 100 thousand exhibits, rich cultural samples, illegal archaeology excavations and misappropriation of discovered artifacts in the occupied territories.
During the session the Azerbaijani side appealed to the UNESCO for preparation of practical and concrete recommendations for protection of the cultural heritage in the occupied territories.
