YOUNG INDONESIANS ABLE TO COMPETE IN IYCE

Jakarta, July 6 (ANTARA) - Young Indonesians with high creativity are able to compete in International Young Creative Entrepreneurs (IYCE) Awards.

"After organizing the IYCE Awards for five years, the British Council has concluded that young Indonesians are able to compete in such an international event and at least 250 of them have taken part in the competition," British Council Indonesia Director Keith Davies said here on Wednesday.

He said IYCE Awards was actually designed to create talented entrepreneurs to develop national creative industries in addition to raising their respective business fields.

"As the pioneer of creative industries, the United Kingdom is proud to transmit the spirit of creative entrepreneurship to the younger generation of Indonesia," Keith Davies said.

After going through tight selection, 20 finalists of 153 applicants from Indonesia were selected for four categories of IYCE Awards this year, namely design, fashion, interaction, and screen.

"This year IYCE Awards holds Nokia mobile phone manufacturer in the category of beginner through Nokia Fellowship scheme," he said.

Meanwhile, Nokia Indonesia Marketing Director Andrea Facchini said he was ready to cooperate with British Council to participate in the annual competition of IYCE Awards 2011.

"Through this Entrepreneur Fellowship, Nokia will provide operating funds amounting Rp200 million for the winner of this competition as a capital for his or her business," Andrea said.

Andrea said his party received more than 200 applicants for Nokia Fellowship with five most favorite categories namely information technology, education, creative abstract, social entrepreneur, and food business.

Held in Indonesia since 2006, IYCE has successfully helped connect more than 650 creative entrepreneurs from Indonesia with international creative industries in the United Kingdom.

Big names in the creative industries at present are Oscar Lawalata, Wahyu Aditya, Sakti Parantean, Yoris Sebastian, Johanssen Samsoedin, and Muhammad Lukman.

"Those people have felt the significance of internet and their interactive experience with British creative industries to develop their businesses," Andrea said.
