Basra PC member threatens to globalize the Kuwait violations against Iraq

Basra (NINA) - Member of the Basra provincial council, Magda Al Khurasani, threatened globalize the Kuwaiti violations against Iraq in case of the absence of the Kuwaiti authorities response to the Iraqi demands.

She said "in the case of non-response of the Kuwaiti side to the Iraqi demands to stop the construction of Great Port Mubarak, the nuclear reactor, UN Resolution 833, stealing of oil wells (slant drilling), then, the Iraqi authorities will globalize these issues to the UN."

She told NINA today that "building a nuclear reactor on the Iraqi border is a violation of the laws of the neighboring countries, set by the UN."

Khurasani explained that "the nuclear reactor Kuwait plans to build is 500meters away from the first residential area in ​​Iraq, and 30km from the nearest Kuwaiti residential area. This is what should be the focus of civil society organizations and international human rights organizations; they should put it as a main priority for them. /End/

Muqtada Al Sadr denounces the opening of U.S. Consulate in Basra

Baghdad (NINA) - Moqtada Al Sadr, leader of the Sadr Trend, strongly denounced the opening of U.S. Consulate in Basra.

Sheikh Salah Al Obeidi, spokesman for Sadr, said in a statement to the media center of the Political Commission of the Sadr Trend which was issued today "democracy, which is highly glorified by the Americans, obligates the respect of the peoples’ opinion and their representatives (as they claim), but, they disrespected that sanctity when they presented a request to open a Consulate for them in Basra, and it was accepted by the Iraqi ministry of foreign affairs, because the Basra provincial council voted in majority last week on a resolution to prevent the entry of the occupying forces to the province."

He added "the occupation will use an excuse of the need to allow troops into the province to protect the U.S. Consulate."

He noted that "Al Sadr calls for not passing such legal violations without deterrent responses at the political and public levels in order not to repeat such attempts to violate Iraqi sovereignty."

The US ambassador to Iraq, James Jeffrey, yesterday, officially opened the US Consulate in Basra, Assistant Secretary of State for the Near East Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, was present at the ceremony. /End/

Mutlag calls on Kuwait to "rethink" building Port Mubarak



Baghdad (NINA) - Deputy Prime Minister Salih Al Mutlag called on Kuwait to reconsider the establishment of Port Mubarak.

In a speech at the conference held by the Ministry of Transport today about the effects of the establishment of Kuwaiti port on the environment of Iraq, Salih said that Iraq may resort to other solutions in this regard,


Transport Minister, Hadi Al Ameri, demanded, during the Conference, the political parties to stand firmly against this project, which "directly affects Iraq".

Al Ameri had previously stressed that building the Kuwaiti Port Mubarak violates the UN Security Council resolution 833 on the demarcation of the borders between Iraq and Kuwait.

He said "if the Kuwaiti side insisted on the construction of the port in this place, then, this frees Iraq from the said Security Council resolution."

For his part, MP from the Iraqiya Slate, Haidar Al Mulla, demanded all political blocs to stand against this project, which he described as the Kuwaiti occupation of Iraq. /End/

Maliki: Iraq, Iran continue discussing all past problems, intend to build better relations

Baghdad (NINA) - Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki said Iraq and Iran are continuing to discuss all the problems of the past, and that the two countries intend to establish better relations.

Maliki said in a joint news conference with Mohammad Reza Rahimi, first deputy of Iranian President, who arrived in Baghdad today "this visit is crucial for the stability of the region and the benefit of their people, after decades of tragedy and tension in the region by the wars of the former regime, which took place between two Muslim countries, relations return to normal, which must be between two Muslim neighbors."

Maliki called on the Iranian companies wishing to contribute in reconstruction or partnership with Iraqi companies to develop prospects of cooperation between the two countries. He said that several agreements between the two countries were signed on this basis.


For his part, the Iranian Vice President said "we must try our best to interact with each other. I announce here that we have forgotten all the pain of the past that dominated the skies of the relations between the two countries. Now we sense the growing ties between the two brotherly and friendly countries."

"The relations with Iraq reached to the peak, we came to develop these relations, we are extending a hand of friendship and brotherhood to all peoples and all Muslim countries. There will not be wars and conflicts anymore, but, more development, construction and building bridges between the brothers and loved ones in Islamic countries,” the Iranian official concluded.
