Locals and tribal sheikhs of Sug Al Sheoukh demonstrate against the arrest of 3 locals by US troops
Nasiriya (NINA) - Dozens of people in Sug Al Sheoukh demonstrated in protest against the arrest, by U.S. forces, of 3 locals, including an officer, last week.
The demonstrators demanded the local government to take a decisive stand against the operations of U.S. forces in the province with acknowledging the Iraqi government or coordinating with them, a matter that they saw as a breach of the security agreement between the two sides.
In the meantime, members of the provincial council met with a delegation from the demonstrators to hear their complaints and to urge the concerned governmental authorities to stop such violations, which harm national sovereignty.
The U.S. military, during the recent days, conducted military airborne operations in the Sug Al Sheoukh district to arrest 3 wanted without coordination with Iraqi authorities.
