Ho Chi Minh City should become a scientific and technological hub


HCM City (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan wants Ho Chi Minh City to become a scientific and technological hub of the country and the region.

Deputy PM Nhan made the statement during his working session with HCM City authorities on its scientific and technological activities on July 15.

To the target, the city should focus on improving scientific research and creativeness, developing hi-tech human resource and increasing the competitiveness of businesses, said the deputy PM.

He also highlighted the city’s outstanding achievements in raising the capacity and effectiveness of State management of scientific-technological activities, and renovating mechanisms and policies on scientific research and technological development.

Ho Chi Minh City is home to almost 300 research institutes and universities and more than 350,000 people involved in scientific and technological activities.

Chairman of the Municipal People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan and Director of the city’s Science and Technology Department Phan Minh Tan reported that the city will study reforms of investment management and financial mechanisms for scientific and technological activities. The city will also encourage enterprises to renovate technology and develop and complete the technology market.

While in the city, Deputy PM Nhan visited the Institute of Computational Science and Technology (ICST), the Integrated Circuit Design Research and Education Centre (ICDREC) of the Ho Chi Minh City National University./.
