Medvedev, Merkel discuss Russian-German economic cooperation

HANOVER, July 19 (Itar-Tass) - Economic cooperation of Russia and
Germany was in the focus of attention at talks of visiting Russian
President Dmitry Medvedev and German Chancellor Angela Merkel during a
working dinner on Monday, which began the program of Russian president's
visit to Germany.
"The leaders discussed Russian-German economic relations within the
context of bilateral agreements and documents planned for the signing on
the results of official talks," Russian president's spokeswoman Natalia
Timakova said.
According to her, the two leaders "discussed separately the situation
in the euro zone and the state of European Union's economy". "The leaders
exchanged in detail opinions on the current economic situation in Russia
and Germany," she said.
"Besides, the president and the chancellor discussed rather
extensively international issues, first of all the situation around
Libya," Timakova said. According to the spokeswoman, the conversation was
held in a warm and informal atmosphere, which is typical for friendly
relations of Medvedev and Merkel. All problems were discussed sincerely
and in a trust-based atmosphere, she said.
Timakova said that on July 17 Angela Merkel marked her birthday, and
Medvedev made her a present of Russian-made linen tablecloth as well as
warmly congratulated the chancellor on her birthday.
