Survey- (Only 38% Pakistanis eat out in restaurants at least once a year)

ISLAMABAD, July 21, 2011 (PPI):  Only 38% Pakistanis eat out in restaurants at least once a year. Dining out is more common amongst urban residents (44%) than rural (33%), revealed a Gilani Research Foundation survey carried out by Gallup Pakistan.

In a survey issued here on Thursday, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces were asked the following question: “How often do you eat out in restaurants?” Nearly a third (36%) says they never dine out, while 25% say they dine out occasionally. Of the 38% who said they dine out regularly, 6% go to restaurants at least once a year, 6% go once in six months, 10% eat out once every three months, while 16% eat out at least once a month.

The trend for eating out in restaurants was higher among urban respondents than rural. 44% urban respondents eat out in restaurants on a regular basis, while only 33% rural respondents do the same.
During data interpretation, it may be helpful to consider that the total respondents include low-income groups who dine at low-cost eateries.

The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2702 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during July 3 -July 9, 2011. Error margin is estimated to be approximately + 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
