KUWAIT, July 23 (KUNA) -- United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)'s Middle East and North Africa Bureau Director Yacoub El Hillo on Saturday extolled His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's initiative to send urgent aid to the drought-stricken Somali people.

The UN official expressed appreciation of KRCS's current humanitarian efforts in Somalia to help reduce the tragic consequences of the drought.

Moreover, there are about one million Somalis flocked to the capital Mogadishu, in search of food and medicine, he added.
He urged all world powers to mobilize their energies and capabilities to help the Somali people and contribute to ongoing efforts to rescue the displaced people who are in urgent need of food, water, medicines and shelter.
For his part, Al-Barjas welcomed UNHCR's delegation's visit to the KRCS headquarters. "This is a real and strong support to KRCS and its humanitarian efforts," he said.
