PACC, TCC join forces against corruption

BANGKOK, July 30 (TNA) - Thailand's Office of the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) and the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation against corruption in international trade.

PACC Secretary-General Ampol Wongsiri said the PACC-TCC collaboration will facilitate the reception of complaints from international investors and business operators who face corrupt government officials; while supporting concerned authorities who are improving Thailand's anti-corruption measures, through information from the local private sector.

Thai Permanent Secretary for Justice Kittipong Kittayarak, who presided over a ceremony to launch the anti-corruption collaboration yesterday, and Director-General of the Thai Ministry of Commerce's Department of Trade Negotiations Srirat Ratthapana acknowledged that the PACC-TCC anti-corruption cooperation will boost confidence in Thailand among international investors and attract more foreign investment projects into the Thai economy, insisting that Thailand needs to guarantee fairness for international trade and investment as part of the country's preparations for the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) by 2015.

Dr. Juree Vichit-Vadakan, Secretary-General of Transparency Thailand, noted that corruption has caused inequality and division in the society, recommending that people be taught and concretely campaigned against corruption since their childhood, along with strict anti-graft laws enforcement. (TNA)
