EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN OPENS OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM

EMPOWERMENT OF WOMEN OPENS OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM

KUALA LUMPUR, July 30 (Bernama) -- The empowerment of women through
education and training has opened many a door of opportunity for women, said
the prime minister's wife.

Rosmah Mansor said, with such empowerment, the women would have
better control over their lives, ability to exercise choices and act decisively,
to make changes confidently and fulfill their potential as productive members of
society.

"What is most important is that it provides them with socio-economic
advancement and mobility.

"Women have, as much a stake as men, in shaping the course of the world and
throughout history, women have left their indelible mark," she said in a speech
during her conferment as honorary life member of the Women Institute Management
(WIM) here Saturday.

She said, it was thus evident, that a pervasive paradigm shift had occured
and continued to take place, giving women recognition and acknowledgement as
players in helping to shape the economy and social landscape of the community
and country.

"Today, women are making waves in many areas of society, having filled many
top corporate management roles and leadership positions in government, civil
society and politics," added Rosmah.

The wife of prime minister Najib Razak said the combined influence of
knowledge, skills and technology would set the stage for women to be better
equipped to design policies, introduce initiatives and pioneer innovations that
enhanced their ability to perform.

"What will further drive these women to success, I believe, are the
universal traits of the women themselves, such as their passion, total
commitment, discipline, perseverance and focus.

"In whatever they are doing, they never give up and will continue to
overcome these challenges along the journey, day in and day out," she said.

She thanked WIM over her conferment of the honorary life membership by the
institute chairman, Napsiah Omar.

Meanwhile at the ceremony, Rosmah also launched WIM's Wealth Series
publication, 'Small Business Success Stories', authored by Sherilyn Foong and
Selina Yeop Jr.

The publication shares the stories and success of eight successful
entrepreneurs and will serve as useful referral for many budding entrepreneurs.
