Several Arab Muslim nations confirm Ramadan advent Aug. 1

CAPITALS (KUNA) - Several Arab Muslim countries around the world announced on Saturday that their moonsighting committees confirmed Monday as the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.
Saudi Arabia's Supreme Justice Council said that Sunday will be the last day of the Muslim lunar calender month of Shabaan.
Iraq's Sunni Endowments Committee said in a statement, that after the crescent of the holy month was not sighted, the month of Shaaban will continue on Sunday, followed by Ramadan the next day.
Egypt's Grand Mufti, Ali Jumaa, confirmed that Sunday will complete the month of Shaaban, and that Monday will be the first day of the holy month of Ramadan.
The Mufti's remarks came during an official moonsighting ceremony organised by the Fatwa official body in the country 'Dar Al Iftaa'.
Jumaa took the opportunity to congratulate the Egyptian people, the Arab world and th e Islamic world on the holy occasion, expressing hope it would encourage his people to pursue good deeds, hard work and production to enable the country to progress.
Other Gulf Cooperation Council countries followed suit, in announcing Monday, as the advent of the fasting month.
Bahrain's Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs issued a statement quoted by Bahrain News Agency (BNA) mentioning that its monsighting committee did not witness the crescent, which marks the advent of Ramadan, and that Sunday will complete the month of Shaaban, ahead of the holy month which begins a day later.
On the occasion, the Council congratulated the Bahraini King Hamad bin Issa Al-Khalifa, the Prime Minister Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, the Bahraini people and the Arab and Islamic worlds.
The United Arab Emirates' state news agency WAM, on its news bulletin said: "The moon sighting committee has announced th at tomorrow Sunday will be the 30th of Shaaban.
"The first day of the holy month of Ramadan will be Monday 1 August, 2011," it added.
Qatar's Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs' Moon Sighting Committee announced that Sunday will be the last day of Shaaban. The committee said that as a result, the first day of the holy month of Ramadan will be Monday, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
In Sudan, the Islamic Fiqh Congregation stated that it did not receive any information that suggested the witnessing of the crescent, which marks the advent of the holy month.
Tunisia's Grand Mufti, Othman Batikh also announced that August 1 will be the first day of Ramadan.
