Majority of Pakistanis claims to have access to mobile phone: a Survey

ISLAMABAD, August 05, 2011 (PPI): Majority (63%) of Pakistanis claim to have access to a mobile phone while 37% said that they did not, showed the results of a survey conducted by Gilani Poll/Gallup Pakistan.

In a survey, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces were asked the following question: “Do you own a mobile phone?” The findings of the survey revealed that a majority of 63% of Pakistanis claimed to have access to a mobile phone. Only 37% did not claim to own a mobile.

In the urban areas more than 70% claimed to own a mobile phone. Even in the rural areas the percentage exceeds 50%. Nearly half (52%) of the lower layer of the income ladder claimed to have access to a mobile. This trend rises to 63% for the middle income group and 74% or more for the upper middle and higher income groups.

Furthermore, a significant gender variance was also noted since 80% of men and 41% of women claimed to have access to a mobile phone.
