MBAM URGES CONTRACTORS TO REGISTER, LEGALISE FOREIGN WORKERS

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 13 (Bernama) -- The Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) has urged contractors to register and legalise their foreign construction workers under the amnesty period before a strict enforcement exercise which is scheduled to commence in November 2011.

In a statement Saturday, MBAM said the contractors could register their foreign workers through Construction Labour Exchange Centre Bhd (CLAB), one of the approved companies appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

"CLAB would be able to assist members from the registration to the
legalisation stage," it said.

It said CLAB has set up registration counters at CIDB Convention Centre (Jalan Chan Sow Lin, Kuala Lumpur); Safira Country Club (Seberang Jaya, Penang); and CIDB Johor (Jalan Tampoi, Johor).

MBAM hoped that the illegal workers, except those with criminal records, be legalised and allowed to remain to work in the construction industry in view of the increase in demand for foreign workers to undertake the many Entry Point Projects under the Economic Transformation Programme and the Tenth Malaysia Plan projects.

For more information, the contractors can call CLAB at 03-2095 9599 or email info6p@clab.com.my.
