S. Koreans fail to get out of qualifying rounds

DAEGU, Aug. 30 (Yonhap) -- Host South Korea once again had a disappointing day at the World Championships in Athletics Tuesday, with none of its three athletes making it past the qualifying stage.
In the men's 1,500-meter heats, Sin Sang-min ranked 35th among 37 runners at three minutes and 55.02 seconds.
In women's triple jump, Jung Hye-kyung was 30th among 34 at 13.50 節?eters. In the men's high jump, Yoon Je-hwan was unsuccessful in all three tries at 2.16 節?eters and was the only one in the field of 33 to fail to clear the bar.
Five finals are scheduled for later Tuesday in women's pole vault, men's discus throw, men's 400 節?eters and 800 節?eters and women's 3,000-節?eter steeplechase. None will include South Korean athletes.
South Korea is seeking its first-ever world championships medal and is trying to put up top-10 finishes in at least 10 disciplines.
