Turkmenistan considers prospective to develop joint communications in Caspian

Turkmenistan considers the interaction in the format of the regions of Central Asia and the Caspian Sea basin as an important area of international cooperation, the analytic material of the Foreign Ministry said.
"Of course, the development of joint maritime communication in the Caspian Sea is seen as promising," the document said.
Turkmenistan borders with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Iran via the Caspian Sea, which is rich with hydrocarbons and biological resources and seeking an access to world markets.
The material says that the creation of the modern extensive inter-regional transport infrastructure and communications network capable of becoming "a powerful impetus to the further successful integration of these regions in the processes of global economic development and facilitating investments and providing conditions for effective partnership."
Turkmenistan considers priority its policy of active development of large-scale transport corridors North-South and East-West, as well as increasing opportunities for communication network Central Asia-Persian Gulf and the development of transport communications in the Caspian-Black Sea region.
These projects, related to the expansion of transport and communication connections between the countries of Central Asia with a further access to the markets of Europe, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, are aimed at "forming the architecture of a new international geo-economic space."
As known, Turkmenistan, along with the neighboring states, is actively working on the implementation of regional railway projects.
If to speak of marine routes, Turkmenistan has recently approved a General Development Plan of international sea port in Turkmenbashi in the Caspian and Turkmen marine trade fleet by 2020.
Experts estimate that full-scale reconstruction of the port will require investments of several billion U.S. dollars. The priority tasks include the construction of new marine terminals with multi-purpose anchor capable to accommodate vessels of any type and capacity and accordingly, warehouses for processing and storage of transit goods and implement export-import operations.
Marine transportation is becoming increasingly important in foreign economic relations of Turkmenistan, increase is recorded in the volumes of cargo processed at anchors of the Caspian, through which the country is delivered industrial and agricultural equipment, auto equipment, metal products, wood products, mineral fertilizers and exports coke and other petroleum products, chemicals and construction industry.
Tens of foreign companies have displayed an interest to take part in the reconstruction and technical modernization of the sea harbor in the city of Turkmenbashi. Recently it became known that this expensive project is of interest for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the Government of Turkmenistan
have already signed a Memorandum of Understanding on modernization of Turkmenbashi port in the Caspian Sea.

The large-scale project envisages the construction of a port container terminal, the terminal for bulk cargo and general cargo with digital processing of orders, construction of a ship repair complex and a passenger station with the bus station and control tower.
