U.S. targeting its opponents in region: Iran

TEHRAN, Sept.7(MNA)--Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the United States is hatching a plot to target the regional countries that are opposed to its policies.

Ramin Mehmanparast, who is on a tour of Greek at the head of a media delegation, made the remarks during a meeting with the editor-in-chief of Greek newspaper Kathimerini in Athens on Monday.

“The Americans have come to the conclusion that they can no longer stand against the will of the people, and therefore they have been devising a new intrigue and have decided to target opposing countries,” Mehmanparast stated.

He also said that the pro-democracy uprisings occurring in the region have been inspired by Iran’s Islamic Revolution of 1979.

He added, “The Iranian nation wants to be independent” and does not want to be subservient to the West.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mehmanparast highlighted the role of media outlets in enlightening public opinion and called for media cooperation between the two countries.

The Greek editor-in-chief welcomed Iran’s offer of cooperation in the field of media.

Sanctions have backfired

Mehmanparast also met with Greek Foreign Ministry spokesperson Grigoris Delavekouras on Monday.

During the meeting, Mehmanparast criticized certain Western countries for adopting double-standard policies toward international issues, such as human rights, and said they have failed in their efforts to stop Iran from making progress through the imposition of sanctions.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mehmanparast emphasized the importance of holding regular talks between Iranian and Greek officials, saying Tehran is ready to increase cooperation with Athens.

Delavekouras, according to a translation of his remarks, described Iran as an “influential” country and called for the expansion of relations between the two countries in all areas.
