‘5+1 group seeking to compel Iran to abide by UN resolutions’

TEHRAN, Sept.8 (MNA) -- An Iranian MP said the 5+1 group (the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China, and Germany), and particularly European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, are trying to compel Iran to abide by the United Nations Security Council’s resolutions.

MP Heshmatollah Falahatpisheh, who is the chairman of the Majlis Foreign Policy Committee, made the remarks on Wednesday in reply to a question about the EU’s ambiguous response to Iran’s latest proposal.

Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Director Fereydoun Abbasi said on Monday that Tehran is ready to allow the International Atomic Energy Agency to fully supervise Iran’s nuclear facilities for five years if the sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic are lifted.

But despite Iran’s proposal, the EU has said that the sanctions imposed on Iran will not be lifted until the Islamic Republic meets its international obligations.

Falahatpisheh said that in the history of Iran’s political negotiations with the EU, whenever the country made a well-intentioned proposal, the EU responded with excessive demands.

He also stated that the volatile relationship between Iran and the IAEA is the result of the agency’s irrational behavior and the 5+1 group’s intervention, which has led to the politicization of the atmosphere for the nuclear negotiations.
